Who We Are
Our award winning multi faceted business is built on years of deep experience and peerless knowledge combined with industry leading quality, service and outcome excellence. Our strong reputation is based on these values. We provided our expert services in over 24,000 properties all over the UK from the Channel Islands to Scotland. Our customers and verticals include governmental bodies, social housing ALMOs and local authorities, education, hospitality and healthcare, and numerous public and private sector property owners, landlords and agents/intermediaries. We hold industry recognised specialist certifications, accreditations and memberships.
Our PCA/ABBE CSDB certified damp and mould and accredited radon surveying and solutions business offers best-in-class root cause diagnosis, precise measurements and outcomes that always deliver permanent remediation. We are experts in understanding the true root cause of damp issues including condensation, black mould and wall surface damage/discolouration and accurately diagnosing structural damp and timber decay. We are members of Property Care Association, Radon Council and UK Radon Association.
Our NICEIC certified MVHR / complex ventilation retrofits and our F-Gas certified Air Conditioning design, installation and maintenance businesses can undertake any project, delivering best-in-class performance, quality and value for money.
Our expert IAQ Testing services provide visibility across all 3 IAQ pollutant categories (microbials, particulates and gases). Our IAQ Solutions create extra layers of protection beyond improved ventilation. Comprising patented Active Air Purification technology and invented in the late 1990s, our Photohydroionisation™ technology is the world’s most validated and proven zero ozone technology and is widely used in over 4 million applications in over 125 countries around the world.
In 2024 we were awarded the H&V News Awards Building a Safer Future Award for our multiple radon mitigation design and installation work packages for Government of Jersey where we installed over 200 systems and successfully reduced radon levels that were significantly above the UK Action Levels (Domestic and Commercial) to below the UK Target level in every building.

What Drives Us
Driven by Service Excellence and Client Fulfilment
One of the most important motivations is a constant desire for end-to-end service excellence from initial understanding of each problem or accurate assessment of each requirement through to over-delivery of solutions.
Andrew’s business career in the UK and Internationally over many years prior has provided a solid foundation to base this upon. Another key motivation is the unique feeling of fulfillment, pride and satisfaction we feel when we solve our clients problems. One of Andrew’s first recollections of this unique feeling was in 2013 when an elderly customer started crying with joy when she realised she had at last found the solution to her annual mould problem that had caused her so much anguish and distress over the years. Andrew got more reward from that one moment than at any time in his 25 year City career and his desire to achieve similar outcomes for clients remains one of the most important driving forces behind the business today.

The Context
Condensation damp and mould, radon and IAQ problems in British properties
Our solutions transform indoor spaces of domestic, commercial and industrial buildings, eliminating the root causes of common complex problems whilst simultaneously transforming energy efficiency.
Our core value proposition is the quality and effect of our services which derives from our knowledge and understanding of the root causes of common indoor environmental problems such as damp/mould, odours, allergens, viral transmission, radon, CO2 plus our deep experience of successful design/specification and installation/commissioning of solutions.
If you are a homeowner or a landlord you have probably experienced ineffective damp/mould treatments where the problem eventually returns or radon treatments where levels remain elevated. Most people put this down to differing/new (and elusive) root causes or just accept the outcomes when in fact the prior treatments/specifications never adequately addressed the true root cause in the first place. This shocking truth is down to endemic ignorance across the property industry combined with ineffective/inefficient guidance and recommendations enshrined in Building Regulations / official websites and the overwhelmingly most common approach by profit driven stakeholders to build to minimum standards and costs.
The fact is these problems have been commonplace in UK domestic property stock ever since we first started double glazing in the early 1970s to save on energy costs in response to the last energy crisis. Insulation improvements (double glazing, loft, cavity) have the effect of sealing up a property which results in more of the pollutants produced by the occupancy (moisture, CO2, odours, pet dander) or ingressed from outside or below (radon, pollens, CO, H2S etc) which places greater reliance on the performance of the ventilation strategy in order to maintain ideal indoor air quality.
The most common domestic ventilation strategy relies on natural background for supply and mechanical extraction but it is the underperformance of this strategy that is the reason why so many properties suffer from these common problems. The purpose of background ventilation is to dilute/displace indoor pollutants with fresh air. Part F demands scalability for this process as occupancy sizes differ but this is impossible for natural background ventilation. Furthermore, it facilitates uncontrolled heat loss which negatively impacts indoor relative humidity and surface temperatures whilst causing occupant discomfort and increasing heating costs. Also, extraction performance is usually significantly below minimum Part F requirements and other dependencies that affect the problem are often misunderstood (internal air transfer, air bricks/trickles that exacerbate mould growth due to uncontrolled heat loss).
There are literally millions of existing domestic buildings in the UK with this ventilation strategy. Why ? Because it is the cheapest and easiest way to comply with Part F for profit driven stakeholders. Therefore they are doing nothing wrong by choosing this strategy despite the fact is is behind these major consequential problems. In truth we have been building these inefficiencies into our property stock for the past 50 years and continue to do so right now. If you look at any new build project in the UK today the vast majority will comprise natural background ventilation. Natural ventilation strategies also present a paradox for energy efficiency. During winter when humidity related problems caused by insufficient ventilation become visually evident occupants have no option but to open windows for ventilation which results in significant heat loss, thermal comfort problems, increased heating bills and increased carbon footprint. Some specifiers will specify air bricks and trickle vents to improve ventilation without knowledge or understanding of the common unwanted consequence that the uncontrolled heat loss can exacerbate a mould problem rather than help it. So the very thing that is supposed to help is actually exacerbating the problems in winter.
Better Indoors brings knowledge and deep experience to these most common problems. We understand why these problems happen. Our unique survey process accurately identifies root cause issues and our designs and specifications comprise all the features and address all the dependencies that most contractors tend to miss. The fact is solving these problems permanently is not a product specific discipline as most people think. You can take a perfectly good product but if you mis-specify it and/or miss dependencies it will not work. All too often we come across poorly specified ventilation installations that do not work where the specifier or contractor blames the product rather than their own competence. We can make our solutions work with any number of accredited products from various manufacturers because what is at the heart of the art is not product specific but entirely in knowledge and experience.
